Thailand Trip - Last Days

We happily spent the last days of our holiday at the hotel area simply because it was the nicest area we came across on our stay in Patong. Patong isn't very beautiful area so in order to avoid the gasoline and salesmen we just relaxed at the hill where our hotel was located.

We headed for dinner to the other (Italian) restaurant of the hotel. This restaurant was a disappointment - the food was cold, portion was extremely small for two and service wasn't very good either. It'a a pitty since the view is so amazing. We gave feedback to the staff so hopefully they will be able to change the dining experience better!

The next morning we woke up for the hotel breakfast for the final time - gosh I miss all that food and those colors on the plate! Especially delicious was the mango - not the typical mango but a crispy type, texture of guava but taste of mango, yummy!

Holidays are always so good but it's nice to be back at comfy and clean Singapore where cars have to be changed by law once they turn 10 years not to fill the air by sticky gas ;P

Thailand Trip - Phi Phi Islands

I've always wanted to go to Phi Phi Islands so we decided to book a speed boat trip from one of the MANY travel agencies. The trip took almost the entire day - a van picked us up at 7.45am and drove us back to the hotel by 6.30pm.  Phi Phi islands actually comprise of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh and there are many other smaller islands around these two.

The first stop was at Coral Island, 20 minutes by boat from the Royal Marina shore. At the time we stopped there the sun was at its hottest. We used spf 75 and still burnt a bit! The water was amazing - turquoise, completely clear and full of fishes! The sand was white and filled with amazing corals and shells. What a paradise, only too hot.

The next stop was at Phi Phi Don where we had a thai buffet lunch and stopped by a few different beaches to swim and look around.

We were so relieved when the sky became cloudy and the heat let go just a little. We did some snorkling at Phi Phi Leh (I was mainly just floating around with a safety vest :D) and then headed to Maya Beach for the last stop before returning back to the hotel. Maya Beach is where the movie the Beach was filmed. It's beautiful but you hardly get the same feeling due to the crowd

Phi Phi is very beautiful and fantastic for snorklers and swimmers (and people who don't feel sick in the boat, unlike me :p) but it's mostly island hopping and not so much of exploring each island properly. I recommend preparing with lots of water and a good sunscreen (even an umbrella).

Thailand Trip - Evening at Patong Beach

The day after Kata Beach we decided to stay at Patong. We found a great tailor shop to tailor office wear (more about this coming up!) and enjoyed the sunset. Even though I can't take dairy (my stomach gets upset) I still had to get ice cream every single night :D Maybe it's a holiday thing... When you know you shouldn't, you want it even more ;)

The sunset was amazing  - colors changed every 10 minutes!

We decided to find Western food for a change and headed to a grill place for an early dinner. We were the only customers, I guess having dinner AND supper isn't the habit for many?! lol They offered a fresh salad buffet and decent main courses. We opted for salmon&burger! I always try to find seafood from the menu in Thailand but unfortunately many restaurants only have imported Norwegian salmon! It's so weird - they have all the fish right there to grab.

We took a tuk tuk back to the hotel. I really think that the tuk tuk trip summarizes Patong very well. Lots of neon bright light, gasoline smell, bars, short buildings, sunglasses, fake brands, tops, trip shops, food, shops after shops... ;)

Next post will bring you to Phi Phi Islands! :)
