About Perfection

How to be happy? That is the big question. Somehow it seems not to be as simple as it sounds. There are just so many reasons not to be happy, or satisfied, with life. In the society of today, we are all living a life surrounded by media - sometimes to the extend that we don't recognize anymore what is real and what looks real. People start comparing themselves to others; to Facebook friends, to celebrities, to photos in magazines, even to bloggers. Yet none of it is real, there are always two sides of a coin and perfection neither exists nor is something anyone should aim at. Think about it, are the people you love the most perfect? If not, why should you be.

I see the aim for perfection linked to another issue. The fact that we can't have everything, and the disappointment that follows when realizing it. The constant want for something we don't have isn't making us happier. People tend to think that once they have succeeded in that something, then they will be happy. Once they have a good job. Once they are married. Once they get that that luxurious item. Then it magically happens. Unfortunately, this is not true. The things we have, have accomplished or own do not make us happy. The reality is also, not all of us ever get what we want. Happiness is an attitude, thus the only solution is to change that. Happiness is being grateful for what we have right now. It's being satisfied with our lives as they are. Not richer, not more beautiful, not with someone else, not any better. Just as it is. It's about noticing the small things that are absolutely free and that everyone has, equally. It's about giving yourself a hug to say; it's good enough, you're good enough. And you have a right to be happy, right now.

Happy weekend! <3

10 Things About Me

I've read many bloggers write posts where they share 10 things about themselves, either facts or funny things. I really like to read these so I wanted to write a similar post myself for you to get to know me a bit better!

1. I drink from a bottle always tongue first. It looks a bit weird to people, as if I'm tasting the drink to make sure it's not bad :D I didn't even realize it before my hubby pointed it out. It's a habit that cannot be changed.

2. My hubs likes to be physically close during couple time, hold hands etc. but when we go to movies I absolutely cannot hold hands. Don't you just think it breaks the illumination of you being part of the movie when you hold hands while watching it?! ;)

3. I have to end every meal with something sweet, chocolate, cookies etc. And having serious food allergies I've started baking and making all kind of trials in kitchen! I used to have lots of stomach ache before I went for allergy tests and lost weight but now that I've learned what I can eat and what not, I have gained weight, energy and positivity.

4. My parents have never pressured me and my sis into a certain kind of a career. My sister is a gardener today and I do something completely different. Blogging is my way of expressing creativity that I've inherited from my dad who is a photographer. I love writing and inspiring people and taking photos. It's my way of relaxing!

5. I talk to plants.

6. I have a HUGE soft spot for animals. I have always had pets and our first dog was called Suru (sadness in Finnish). Now my two cats live in Finland. If I see snails on the road after rain I have to move them aside so that no one will step over them. I cry endlessly if I see a touching animal video like this one.

7. My husband never calls me by name, always "Sweety". So if he mentiones me by name somewhere it feels weird.

8. I'm e x t r e m e l y stubborn.

9. I can't leave the house without a lip balm.

10. I've learned more about myself, what I want from my life and what I want to be like within the past one year than during the first almost 30 years.

New Home

It's been a bit silent at the blog because I've been moving to a new place! Moving is always a bit difficult because I get attached to the places where I live and dislike constant change in the home front. However, this a chapter of my life full of change so I better get used to it and take most out of new experiences. The good thing about moving house is that you see all the things that have accumulated and can decide what to keep and what to throw/give away. It's also a new fresh start and that's the part I do like. I love starting new things and the feeling of a "new beginning" :)

I have a cookie recipe and better pics of this outfit coming up very soon, stay tuned! :)

Our Wedding

As I told you in the previous post, we are celebrating our anniversary this weekend. Our wedding day two years ago was a magical day. We got just a few drops of rain and then the sun started to shine. The place was more than amazing, food was to die for and after a glass of sparkling I was ready for the big day! My husband's family gave me a necklace that I will treasury forever, mainly because I felt it was so touching they wanted to give me something I've always dreamt of. Our loved ones gave us speeches, we laughed and cried and ate, drank and danced until midnight. My husband even had practised how to sing a Finnish song with our band! Here are some of the photos from our big day, hope you enjoy! <3

The next day we woke up to full sun shine and a great hotel brunch :) I will post later on about our anniversary celebration!

Mr & Mrs - About Marriage

We are celebrating our 2-year anniversary at the end of this month. It's then exactly three years since he proposed and two years since the happiest and most perfect day of my life so far, our Wedding day. My husband's proposal was simple and private, yet very meaningful and very beautiful. It happened at midnight on a warm summer night in Finland, in my childhood area, at sea shore. It was completely silent, you could just hear the wind in the willows, nothing else.

Our Wedding day took place on an island in Helsinki, in a beautiful old wooden restaurant with amazing surroundings. I still remember the once in a lifetime feeling of everyone I love being there on my special day. It's a feeling I can't describe. The food was absolutely perfect - the best Finnish food I've ever eaten, my friend sang us the most touching song ever and my husband's family gave us wonderful speaches and a very meaningful gift to me.

The second day after our wedding we read through all the wonderful cards and notes guests had written. It was such a dream.

Second anniversary is called "Paper Wedding". The first one is cotton, third leather and 60th diamond. This is for a reason - marriage gets stronger year by year. Paper is easily crumbled or even teared, diamonds last wear and tear. I couldn't agree more. Intercultural marriage is not an easy one. Throughout these two years we have gotten to know each other at our best - and at our very worst. I truly appreciate that I can be myself, 100% real, with my husband and he still loves me despite it all. I've always been honest with him, and he always wishes what's best for me. He has been there through fights, tears, days when I'm completely down or very sick. But he is there to share my laughter, my joy and my aspirations.

This is what I wish for everyone, to find someone not having to pretend with. Someone who accepts you for who you are as a person, not for external reasons and not only when you are nice or happy. Someone who cleans the toilet after you have vomited throughout the night when sick. That is unconditional love and it's worth waiting for.

Lately

After starting in a new job my days and weeks, even months, are flying pass. If I didn't have friends and family in Finland, I wouldn't even notice the passing of months - winter, spring and now summer. I really miss the four seasons and change of temperature, weather and mood. Somehow winter or rainy days in Finland give people a reason so be silent, shut their doors and just be all alone for a while. Singapore on the other hand is on the go constantly - business depends on pace, consuming, shopping, buying, going, coming, working, queueing. Non-stop. Sometimes I wish I was just sitting on a rock in Helsinki, looking at the sea, wind blowing my hair and listen to nothing.

Anyhow, I'm here and this weekend I had surprise guests from Finland - I'm always so happy to get visitors!! Today our good friends in Singapore celebrate their wedding. My husband is at their gate crashing at the moment which is a tradition of the husband going to the bride's parents house to "buy" the bride over to the husband's family. The bridesmaids prepare all kind of tricks for the best men and the groom to get pass and lots of money and gifts are passed on to the bride and her bridesmaids.

Lately I've been relaxing mostly at home and with friends, trying to cook new dishes - my new bravura is goat cheese&salmon pizza and chocolate cupcakes :)

Another weird thing lately is that all of a sudden Singapore is filled with moths. They are everywhere - at home, outside, at the mrt station, on my office door, in my office lobby...! I tried to save the first ones out of the window but there seem to be too many!

In terms of outfits I'm inlove with combinations of white lately <3

Well, this post was all over the place without any direction whatsoever but oh well, that's life! I hope you've had a great Saturday and lots of nice plans (or relaxing time at home) for today :)

Signs That Show You Are Close To 30

You start to be interested in cooking and, especially, photographing food. And eating it of course ;) Hunting for a new restaurant is one of your favourite things.

You become even more interested in baking and you loooooooove adding photos of cupcakes and macarons to your instagram...

Choosing a cupcake is one of the highlights of your day!

You have learned to enjoy the taste (and effects) of good coffee!

You start thinking of settling down and begin receiving invitations to weddings and baby showers...

Cute or what?! ;)

You especially like the taste (and effects!) of a glass of wine but, unlike in your 20s, you get tired after a couple of glasses and want to go to sleep rather than clubbing.
